West Side Story (1961)

First, why did not one tell me about the EPIC dance fighting in this movie?

Another movie that I might have responded to differently if I had seen it when I was younger.

But today? Really, Maria? You dance half a dance with some dude and suddenly you're so in love with him that you forgive him for murdering your brother? Like so quickly!

The character I most identified with in this movie was Doc. "Why do you kids like there's a war on?"

I really enjoyed seeing Rita Moreno as Anita. I've been watching 'One Day at a Time," and love her in it. She was wonderful in this and I think Anita was a much more interesting role than Maria. I also thought the role of Riff was more interesting than the role of Tony. Maybe I just don't believe in love at first sight?

Staying at home has me catching up movies that I haven't seen yet. And not necessarily movies that have come out recently. So, watch out for spoilers! 

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

My reactions to this movie would probably have been vastly different if I'd seen it 10 or more years ago. But, I watched it for the first time in 2020, after years of experience teaching at the college level. 

Mr. Ryan (History Teacher): Bill and Ted, you are failing history. If you don't get an A+ on your final presentation tomorrow, you will fail. 

Me: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Every student who is failing a course believes that if they just get an A+ on the final, they will be okay. The fact that they haven't been able to pass the assignments up to that point doesn't seem to make them doubt their ability to get an A+ this time. 

And then, to pass the assignment, Bill and Ted literally kidnap people from different points in history and have them present, not even doing the work themselves. 

These points aside, I actually did enjoy the movie. But apparently, it hit a few nerves.
